M3 FIGHTING KNIFE & M6 Scabbard
Description: This U.S. M3 Fighting Knife manufactured by IMPERIAL from early WWII is in pristine condition. The blade has no patina, rust, or stains and has only been factory sharpened, which is hard to see evidence of. The spine (straight top edge) of the blade has no damage. You can still see the original machining marks on the blade which measures 6 13/16" from the bolster (hand guard) to the tip. The point (tip) of the blade is needle sharp and perfectly shaped. The full leather layered handle has crisp void edges and shows what I call fuzzing in areas where the leather's grain runs opposed to the finish trim. The leather is quite supple and can provide a full purchase for maximum grip. The pummel (butt end) of the tang (metal spar under the handle) is not damaged and sports the pronounced flaming bomb cartouche mark. The proof that this fighting knife is the real deal is the staking or peening of the end of the tang rod that holds the whole thing together. Take a close look at the picture of the pommel and you see the sun's rays marking on the end of the tang and a little on the pummel. The Original M6 Leather Scabbard was manufactured in 1943 by L&C (Lyons & Coulson Leather Company) and inspected by FJA (Brigadier General Frank J Atwood) at the U.S. Arsenal. The scabbard (sheeth) is the only part of the set that shows minimal wear. There is absolutely no corrosion on the metal parts and the handle strap snap still secures tightly. This M3 Fighting Knife and M6 Leather Scabbard likely did not see any "battle action" during WWII. At most, it may have been used as a letter opener and very few at that. This is definitely a piece of WWII history that you could be proud to add to your WWII militaria collection. Take a close look at the pictures and you will agree. If needed I have many more pictures I can email you. Thanks for looking. Accepted method of payment is USPS Money Order or pre-arranged means. I will fully insure and ship this set FREE within the 48 contiguos United States ! SOLD |
