WW1 EARLY U.S. MADE FOR BRITISH REMINGTON MODEL 1913 1917 BAYONET & SCABBARD ALSO FOR TRENCH GUN.
Description: WW1 EARLY U.S. MADE FOR BRITISH REMINGTON MODEL 1913 1917 BAYONET & SCABBARD ALSO FOR TRENCH GUN. Made for the British originally with Broad Arrow over "D 4" over "A" but with strike through marks denotes that it was an early contract for British P14 rifles (two grooves in wood grips and lack of clearing hole) but the US bought them back(never shipped) since they were suddenly needed for our own 1917 rifles(England bailed on SMLE production in US cause too costly). Correct blue dip mark extending 1" from hilt(covering ricasso) back through pommel. Crisp markings on ricasso 'US" and "1913/8-17" and Remington in circle. Wood grips with correct two grooves and "4" stamped in left flat. Blade excellent with original British Spec sand blasting to blade. Original tip over correct 17" length to blade. Original leather/steel scabbard with excellent stitching and brass wire hanger for belt. Prime example of early 1917 bayonet made before the US got into War. SOLD |
