A very nice and original WWII U.S. Navy machete, made by Collins & Co. in 1944, wear reflecting moderate shipboard, shore, and utility use.
Description:
U.S. military machete manufactured by Collins & Co., dated 1944, produced for U.S. Navy, with 20" carbon-steel blade, clipped point profile, and original finish. Overall length measures approximately 25 inches. The blade is marked “USN” over the "LEGITIMUS" Collins & Co. maker’s mark and “1944” near the ricasso. Original hardwood grip scales secured by three steel rivets. Rawhide thong. Complete with its original U.S.-issue olive drab canvas scabbard with steel throat, stitched/riveted construction with canvas reinforcement at tip. “U.S.N./HOTZE/1944,” on inner surface below belt hanger.
Condition:
VG+ original condition, most finish remaining on blade with fading and early oxidation in usual contact areas. Original canvas sheath with oil staining, stitches and rivets intact. Rawhide thong is a modern replacement.
