WILLIAM R. "Bill" HURT CAMP KNIFE MADE IN APRIL 1997-SECOND MODEL EVER MADE-UNSURPASSED-UNEQUALLED-THE BEST OF THE BEST!
Description:
William R. "Bill" Hurt is a protege of the late Bill Moran. Back in February 1997 he submitted a" prototype camp knife" to be used in a magazine article when tests/evaluation will be performed. His so-called "prototype" blew up any other knives that were sent. This is a "Beast". What you can do with a Bill Hurt's camp knife is beyond belief ( see all posted pictures-and these represent only a small fraction of all the woods my friends and I cut over a period of three months), without counting all the meat and anything else we could think in using this model-we just couldn't put the knife down! The 12-1/4" blade by 1-3/4" wide is as means as it can be-this is a very powerful knife that can easily remove an arm or a limb with one swing-no kiddling! The temper line is clearly visible on the blade. If you have never cut wood with a knife you had better stay away from this one, and start with a lesser blade. This is by far the most extraordinary camp knife I've ever tested and seen. Anything else comes at a distant second. What you can do with Bill's camp knife defies logic. This is the second model ever made which Bill sent on April 1997 to my friend. Picture of Bill and "Bill" shooting aroows at the back of the shop can be given with the knife. Selected curly maple handle with intricate curlicues of silver wire inlay. I do have several magazine articles and newspaper articles that I could give with this knife as well. The leather scabbard is of the wood-lined type and covered with African Kudu skin ( extremely strong when venturing into the wilderness). The sheath is equipped with a swivel on the back which allows you to bend down, squat, changes position without being poked in the leg, hip bone or else. This knife was never used or carried. If you need any more information feel free to contact me. Bill Hurt was as student of Bill Moran and the Master of The Forge certainly taught Bill how to make a knife. Bill Hurt's whereabouts are unknown for many years now. I was told by his long time friend that he is in PA. and lives with his daughter? Now that's a knife folks! Free shipping by USPS with tracking number. NOTE: At the time the knife was made Bill was a Journeyman smith in the ABS, but never wanted to become a Master Smith- Blade is stamped JS and W.R. Hurt. Blade is made from 5160 tool steel with a straight back ( the prototype had a curved spine or back ) and offers incredible tensile strenght ( blade will bend during heavy use in chopping/cutting wood and comeback into itsnatural position/angle-see one of the picture when cutting through an 8-3/4 " oak log..... Stunning workmanship on a truly functional knife of extreme beauty-the handling characteristics and balance found on this knife needs to be seen, but again watch out if you do intend to use this knife........ I could give the two-part 'KNIFE TORTURE TESTS" with this model if one wish to have when an array of custom camp knives were tested and evaluated-guess who came out first ! The article came out in the October/December 1997 issue of KNIVES ILLUSTRATED. Bill did not make too many knives, and when one come up for sale , price is usually very high. One last note if I may: The picture of Bill and " Bill " can be seen in the book that I wrote about Bill Moran listed on this site titled : William F. "Bill" Moran. Jr. -America's Premier Bladesith-Still On The Cutting Edge. Thanks for looking.
