US Coast Guard Auxiliary Blue Officer’s Tunic with Ribbons and Shoulder Boards
Description:
This is a post-1972 blue, four pocket uniform tunic colloquially named "Bender Blues" after Admiral Chester R. Bender, who approved a new uniform design in the early 1970s in order to give the USCG a uniform identity that was distinct from the US Navy. This particular tunic is an issue men’s size 38R and is in excellent, little-worn condition with the USCG Auxiliary’s distinct silver-finished buttons and USCGA wire embroidered shoulder boards displaying the rank of a Flotilla Commander. The previous owner was evidently a WW2 Army Air Force veteran and was authorized to wear the USAAF Aerial Gunner’s badge over his ribbon bars which are as follows: American Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal / World War II Victory Medal, USCGA Vessel Examiner Ribbon, USCGA 5-Year Membership Ribbon. This is a neat and seldom seen USCG Auxiliary uniform item, and is in excellent condition overall.;
