British Pattern 1822 Infantry Sword
Description: This unmarked sword bears the cipher of William IV (1830-1837) on the brass Gothic style hilt and features a 1 inch wide 32 inch single fullered flatback blade with 9 inch false edge, sharkskin grip with brass wire and braid wrap. The guard shows a couple sharp cuts and some impact marks, and looks well used. The brass has a great old patina. The folding portion of the guard has been removed long ago, a common period modification. The grip is in very good condition with one broken wire and wear to sharkskin. The blade is gray with staining and some scattered light pitting. It has been sharpened and also has a former owner's ID number electric penciled by hilt. A well used example, probably for a Colonial Militia Officer but with a scarce Royal cypher. SOLD Manufacturer: British Model: Sword |
