Very Rare Canadian Militia Cap 49th Regiment Hastings Rifles
Description: This is an original Canadian Militia Cap from the 49th Regiment Hastings Rifles. As laid out in Charles H. Stewarts Book "The concise Lineages of the Canadian Army 1855-Date" He states about the 49th "The regiment was raised September 14, 1863 as the 49th Hastings Battalion of Infantry at Belleville, Ontario. It was redesignated the 49th Hastings Battalion of rifles on April 6, 1871 and the 49 Regiment (Hastings Rifles) May 8th, 1900." This unit pre-dates the July 1, 1867 date of the Canadian Dominion. The cap and toorie are made of forest green wool with a bit of wear and some light deterioration. The cap trim is still attached with a few loose seams. The chin strap is in very good condition. The interior wool is red with bright color with spotty holes in the fabric. The crown pad is in nice condition with the fabric intact and tight stitching. The forged and finished by hand, brass unit badge is thick and weighty and a piece of history. The badge is attached to the cap by a pin on the inside of the front wall. Overall an import part of Canadian history that you don't come across often. ; SOLD |
