World War II SHIN-GUNTO Japanese Officer SWORD HAND-FORGED Kamikaze Marked Imperial Japanese Sword
Description: World War II SHIN-GUNTO Japanese Officer SWORD HAND-FORGED Kamikaze Marked Imperial Japanese Sword Here we present an antique Imperial Japanese Gunto, manufactured circa 1940s. This one features a rayskin tsuka (grip) wrapped with tightly twisted cloth. The tsuba (hand guard) is quite ornate with gold painted leaves. The entire sword is held together by the mekugi (small bamboo pin) in the middle of the tsuka. Though the Japanese had adopted several more Western designs for military blades, this one was still based on the traditional Japanese sword known as the katana with a slightly curved blade ending in a piercing, angular point. The katana ha (cutting edge) is still very sharp. There are what appears to be swordsmith’s markings on the tang and may be translated as “Sakai, Ryoji” (last, first name). A mitsudomoe, the common Japanese symbol sometimes meaning “man, earth, & god,” is also engraved into the tang. “Mitsu" means “3”, and “domoe” means “comma-looking shape”. More than likely this sword was hand forged, rather than factory machine made since all these markings are present. The overall condition is Fine. The mune (back of the blade) has no dings or dents visible to the eye. The Ha (cutting edge) has very minimal dings. The tsuka is in fantastic shape. The tsuba (guard) is slightly loose. The number “16181” is graven into the left habaki (langet). Some of the original finish is chipping from the scabbard, but overall remains in great shape! A truly fine and scarce piece of WWII history. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Overall length is 40 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1375 #191151 SOLD Antique: Yes |
