US Model 1917 Trench Knife by Landers, Frary & Clark
Description: This formidable knife measures 14" overall with a 9" straight, angular blade. The blade retains 95-97% of the original blued finish that has silvered slightly along the centers of the facets from contact with the scabbard, and has a bright metal tip where the blade was machined slightly, possibly in order to straighten the point. The hilt has the pyramidal type "D"-guard with large "U.S./L.F.&C./1917" stamp on the front of the quillon, and has mild ruddy-brown freckling at the bases of the pyramidal projections, with about 85-90% of the original blued finish remaining on the balance. The finger-grooved wooden grip has a few minor surface scratches and light blemishes in the original oil finish, heaviest near the pommel. The "JEWELL 1918" marked scabbard is in very good shape and has a commensurate amount of the original blue on the lightly freckled throat and riveted chape. The leather body has light-moderate surface scuffs and retains much of the original olive green paint. This is a very nice Landers, Frary & Clark-made trench knife, and is in fine-near excellent condition overall.; SOLD |
