US Pattern 1873 Ordnance or Hagner Entrenching Tool -Remarkable Condition 1877 I’m not going to get into the history of this particular entrenching tool but it was developed by Major Paul Hagner, Brevet Brigadier General, Ordinance Department, hence the “Hagner Entrenching Tool.” This particular tool is in remarkable 100% original amazing condition. DON”T BE FOOLED BY THE MANY REPRODUCTION TOOLS FLOATING AROUND ON THE INTERNET. This is the real deal. This tool has a 2nd type handle (long handle) with 17 groves turned into the oaken grip and stamped with a “US.” The scabbard, leather-covered tin with a brass throat and iron carrying ring and staple, is also a 2nd type, 1877. The scabbard is also stamped with a nice sharp “US.” These 2nd type entrenching tools were manufactured at the Watervliet Arsenal. You won’t be disappointed!
