WWI U.S. Belt Canteen Assembly 45 Cal Pouch 36th Division Texas
Description:
This is a very nice and interesting set of WWI U.S. gear with names and trench art and all appear contemporary. Thebelt is in good condition and marked "P" "26 48" "US", a bit of verdigris and one rough spot. The 45cal. Magazine pouch is in very good condition, marked "SEPT RUSSEL 1918". The canteen kit is interesting, the cover is originally a Calvary issue and has had the strap removed and a belt loop hand sewn on to the back. It is marked "US LONG 1917" and remains in very good condition. The canteen is not stamped, indication an early one, has "ERR and JAS" carved into it. The cup is stamped "US L.F. & C. 1918" and some other unit numbers. The bottom is nicely carves trench art, with the "T inside an arrow head" and "36th". The 36th Infantry Division, known as the "Texas Division" or "Panther Division" was formed in July 1917 at Camp Bowie, Texas, from National Guard units of Texas and Oklahoma. It deployed to France in July 1918, fighting in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and taking Saint-Étienne, suffering over 2,600 casualties before the Armistice. Nice set of WWI equipment and trench art.;
