The Zytel "Boat Paddle" stock is an acquired taste – an interesting relic of Ruger's 90s era. People complained about it being heavy, throwing off balance, and increasing felt recoil. For something like the M77/22, however, this is not the case. While being heavy, it doesn't affect balance as much as it does on other M77 models, and .22 LR being such a light round means that there's still basically no recoil, even with the Zytel stock.
