Lady Smith" .22 caliber revolver

Description:
Up for review is an interesting small Smith&Wesson revolver generated by the company toward the end of 1908.  It travels under the moniker of "Lady Smith" even though no such indication appears on the revolver itself.  These little pistols came into being just after the turn of the last century being produced between 1902 and 1921 in three different models, this one being amongst the second model series.  A little over 26 thousand were produced in total during this period.  This one happens to have a blued finish which puts it in lesser numbers than the more common nickeled plated guns produced.  It also is accompanied by an original holster which has the gun's serial number stamped on its leather. These identical serial numbers appear on the gun's barrel, frame, butt stock and inside the right grip.  To find one of these pistols in reasonable shape in its original blued condition with an exceptionally nice matching holster would certainly place it in the collectable catagory.  The holster has no cracks in its leather and the stitching remains very much intact throughout even though it has a generalized patina sugesting its age.   The gun itself has no doubt handling marks which show in the photos with a few that are remarkable but none that are so disfiguring as to suggest the revolver has been unusually abused during any of its near 120 year history.  The bore in this gun is absolutely mint and the grips are pretty much the same.  Its action and lock up are very good in spite of its very small trigger guard.  One's finger if placed in front of the trigger inside of the trigger guard will on occasion stop the trigger from moving all the way forward after squeezing the trigger giving the impression of a slightly faulty mechanism.  Not so, as adult males usually have fatter fingers than their female counterparts do and this may be the reason most ladies have no trouble using this little revolver.  When you handle one of these guns you wonder why the company would even produce a pistol this small.  Anyway, hopefully my photos will support this commentary and I thank you very much for your interest so far.  I'll try and answer any questions that might arise via the internet or phone.    Jack
