Circa 1946-'47 Hi Standard Model H-D Military .22 Pistol
w/ Original Box
** Beautiful H-D Military! **
Description: This circa-1946-47 vintage Hi Standard H-D Military .22 pistol is a beautiful example, and comes complete with the rarely-seen original box with some of the original paperwork still inside. The H-D Military pistol was first made for the U.S. Military as a training pistol that would allow troops to practice with a sub-caliber pistol that would allow an easy transition to the .45 ACP caliber 1911 service pistol. The U.S. Military contract pistols were made until 1945 when the contract ended. The commercial Hi Standard H-D Military made after the war was essentially a Model H-D with an external safety and was offered in both a 4.5" inch barrel as well as a 6.75" inch barrel. The H-D Military features a high-gloss blue factory finish, adjustable sights, a grip angle that mimics the Colt 1911, checkered American Walnut grips, and a 10-shot magazine with a heel-mounted release. This handsome Hi Standard .22 pistol model quickly proved to be a very well-made and reliable pistol when it was first sold commercially in 1946. They were very popular with many of the returning WW2 vets due to the familiarity with the 1911 design and were a commerical success for Hi Standard, with production continuing until 1955. This particular example is an early production example in excellent condition. It has obviously spent the vast majority of it's life in a safe or storage and appears to have been fired VERY little. As you can see in the pictures provided, the original gloss blue finish is still bright and very beautiful. Hi Standard really spent a lot of time on the fit and finish, with a excellent polish prior to the bluing process. On a rating scale the finish scores 97%, with the only deductions coming from some tiny little handling/storage marks that have accrued over the last 70 plus years. The bore in this pistol is pristine. The bore shows mirror-bright and clean, with rifling that still has sharp lands and grooves. The original Walnut grips with hand-cut checkering are in excellent condition. The checkering is still crisp and clean, with no visible wear, damage, or repairs. All of the controls on this Hi Standard are in perfect working order. The internal mechanics of this pistol are just as pristine as the exterior, showing no mechanical wear. The action is works smoothly with precision, there is no slop between the frame and slide. The trigger is quite good, breaking with a light pull and no slop or grit. As mentioned before, this particular gun is very special in that it has the original serial numbered box with it, along with both the original adjustable sight instructions and a half-cock warning insert. If you have been looking for a legitimate collecter-grade all-original and unmolested Hi Standard H-D Military, here is your chance. It would be nearly impossible to find an early production gun any better or more complete than this one.
