Factory engraved Sharps Pepperbox Silver plate frame Gold plate barrels Real Mother Of Pearl Grips
Description:
Rare and very hard to find in the condition. I wonder what poker player back in the day had this in his vest pocket?
The engraved Sharps Pepperbox is a multi-barrel pocket pistol featuring a silver-plated frame, gold-plated barrels, and genuine pearl grips. Produced by C. Sharps & Co. during the mid-19th century, this percussion pepperbox design reflects the company’s compact repeating pistol concept that combined multiple rotating barrels with a single hammer. The metal surfaces display factory-style scroll engraving across the frame, back strap, and barrel cluster, typical of the company’s higher decorative variations from the period. Markings on these models generally include patent and manufacturer information positioned around the hammer screw and on the frame sides.
This Sharps Pepperbox is used. The silver plating on the frame remains largely intact, while the gold plating shows visible retention on the hammer, trigger, and protected areas of the barrels. The pearl grips are intact aside from a small chip near the front strap corner. Serial numbers on the frame and barrel assembly do not match, a feature sometimes encountered on Sharps pistols produced during the Civil War era. The engraving remains well defined and consistent with factory embellishment patterns of the time.
Included with the pistol is its fitted case, which shows mild handling and storage wear primarily on the underside. The overall presentation reflects a well-preserved example of an engraved Sharps pocket model with contrasting precious-metal finishes and decorative grips, representative of the company’s engraved production from approximately 1859 to 1874.
