1926 Vintage Savage Model 1917 Semi-Auto .32 ACP Pistol
* Nice Original Vintage Savage *
Description: This is a 1926-production Savage Model 1917 semi-auto pistol in .32 ACP caliber. Sold with the motto "10 Shots Fast!", this was one of the first double-stack high-capacity pistols on the market anywhere in the world. The Savage Model 1917 has a very unqiue and art deco appearance, very fitting for something built in the teens and twenties. A derivitive of the Savage Model 1907, the Model 1917 had a redesigned grip that was wider with more angle in it as well as 28 slide serrations instead of the 9 large serrations on the earlier models. The Model 1917 was an excellent design, both well-made and reliable despite being small enough to conceal. Take-down is also easy, quick and requires no tools, allowing the owner to easily clean the gun in minutes. The Model 1917 proved itself a great little self-defense pistol, very accurate and reliable with good ergonomics. The 10-round magazine capacity meant that there could be 11 rounds on-board the gun when full which gave the owner a definitive firepower advantage over the other semi-auto pistol options of this time period. These unique vintage pistols are sought-after today by both collectors and shooters alike, with many people still carrying these for self-protection even today despite the age of the design. This particular example has been used and carried but not abused. It retains most of it's factory matte blue finish but does have some areas of finish wear and some spotting from prior surface rust being removed. There is some extremely small pin-prick pitting on the backstrap, otherwise the metal is smooth and uniform. All of the factory markings are crisp and clear, and there is still some original case colors remaining on the trigger. The bore in this 3.75" inch barrel is excellent, free from any pitting or imperfections and showing nice sharp rifling from the chamber to the crown of the muzzle. The original black checkered plastic grips on this pistol are in excellent condition, with both sides free from any cracks, chips, or repairs. The checkering is still crisp and the Savage Indian Head logos are still clean and 100% intact. Both grips are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the metal with no wiggle. The magazine in this .32 ACP Model 1917 appears to be an old aftermarket piece. The feed lips are still clean and the follower still has strong spring pressure. The magazine release is mounted on the toe of the front grip strap and functions properly with the aftermarket magazine, but is does require you to push it all the way in fully to drop the mag loose. A factory magazine would probably drop free a little easier. The action on this Savage is slick, smooth, and precise. The slide to frame fitment is superb with no slop in it. Unlike most recoil operated semi-auto pistols, the slide rides on the inside of the frame rails on this Savage Model 1917. All of the controls on this pistol are in perfect working order, including the safety lever which also functions to lock the slide back when the slide is pulled rearward and the safety switched on. The internals of this Savage show little to no mechanical wear, indicating that while this pistol has been carried some it has been fired VERY little. If you have been looking for one of these cool art deco .32 ACP Savage autos that you can enjoy as both a shooter/carry gun AND as a long term investment, this 1926-production example would be an excellent yet affordable choice.
