Description: Scarce 1903 Mfr. COLT M1902 Semi-Automatic .38 ACP “SPORTING” Pistol C&R 1 of 6,927 Manufactured; Designed by JOHN BROWNING Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Colt Model 1902 Semi-Automatic “Sporting” Pistol manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut in 1903. The Sporting Model was manufactured between 1902 and 1908 with a total of 6,927 pistols produced. Manufactured concurrently with the “Sporting” Model was the “Military” Model with a production run between 1902 and 1928 with a total of 18,068 pistols manufactured. The Sporting Model 1902 variant was slightly lighter and smaller than the military version, with a more rounded grip frame. As mentioned above, in 6 years of production a total of 6,927 Sporting versions were manufactured. In the period of 1902–1907 the Sporting Models still outsold the military models, 6,927 to 5,500 and when production of the Sporting Model ended in 1907, sales were still steady. Perhaps unexpectedly, with the end of Sporting model production, the Military Model sales actually began to decline until 1913, The Model 1902, developed by John Moses Browning and produced by Colt, was an improved version of the Model 1900. It led to three related pistols: the Sporting Model, the Military Model, and the Pocket Hammer Model. The 1902 Sporting was nearly identical to the 1900, sharing the same serial range. The Military Model had a longer grip frame and an extra round in the magazine, while the Pocket Hammer had a shorter barrel and slide but kept the Sporting grip frame. The overall condition is fine. Much original blue is preserved. The action is excellent. Frosted bore with strong rifling. Markings are sharp. Both grips are in fine shape. Matching numbers. Own the original!
