This pistol is one of the prototypes that I built in the course of R&D-ing what became the .45 SUPER LONGSLIDE. It was the test bed for various components I was considering for this unique concept.
The goal was to produce a 7-inch long slide 1911 big-game hunting pistol that would handle the amazing .45 Super cartridge. While the standard .45 ACP operates in the 14,000 psi range, the .45 Super operates at 28,000 psi and the 1911 required some re-engineering to handle that kind of strain. This prototype of my .45 Super Longslide was my first successful model that handled the .45 Super without a hitch. It will shoot a 255-grain hardcast lead bullet at just a shade under 1200 fps making it a serious hunting handgun.
In addition to being able to shoot the .45 Super, the .45 Super Longslide will also shoot .45 ACP hardball ammo without any modification to the pistol. This makes everyday shooting and practice very economical and simple. The .45 Super ammunition is readily available from Midway, Underwood Ammunition, and Buffalo Bore.
This pistol is a two-toned version wherein I was testing the Cerakote finish on the slide and my casehardening of the frame. All the controls are nitre blued and it wears faux stag grips to complete the look of a hunting pistol.
I am selling this prototype for $1700 to secure funds for development of yet another handgun. (Stay tuned for details on it.) I will include a Certificate of Authenticity verifying it as the prototype pistol that became the .45 Super Longslide.
