The Sig Sauer P320 pistol is one of the most popular pistols on the market, with dozens of models being developed to fill different roles in competition, self-defense, law enforcement, and military roles. The P320 XTEN is one of Sig’s newest additions to the P320 lineup. It is chambered for the classic 10mm Auto cartridge. This famous man-stopper was originally introduced in 1983 and chambered for the famous (or infamous) Bren Ten pistol. Although that pistol was only produced in small numbers, it was made famous by the TV series Miami Vice where one of the main characters, James “Sonny” Crocket, carried it as his main side arm for a few seasons. The cartridge almost slipped into obsolescence but was ultimately saved by three separate events. In 1987, Colt unexpectedly introduced the now legendary Delta Elite model, a 1911 chambered in the 10mm. Two years later (1989), the FBI adopted the 10mm as their standard pistol cartridge. One year later (1990), Glock introduced the famous G20 pistol in 10mm Auto. After the introduction of the .40 S&W, itself a shortened 10mm Auto, the latter fell again out of the public eye. Only sales of the Delta Elite and the G20 kept the cartridge alive. With the recent fall in popularity of the .40 S&W, and the growing need for a high-powered semi-auto pistol round, the 10mm Auto has enjoyed a recent surge in popularity and is now being chambered by several manufacturers. The new pistol shown here is the 320XCA-10-COMP or XTEN Carry COMP. It is Sig Sauer’s third pistol in 10mm, and their second 10mm striker-fired pistol, having previously chambered the cartridge in the full-size XTEN and the hammer-fired P220 pistol.
