1945 Remington Rand 1911A1 Unissued, Boxed W/NRA Receipt .45acp, 99%, Boyt Holster

Description:
1945 Remington Rand 1911A1 US Army pistol, with unissued 1944 dated Boyt GI holster. Pistol appears unissued and unfired since factory. Comes in Kraft box with NRA receipt dated 08/13/1962 for $17.00.Left side markings: Above mag release button U.S. ordnance inspector marked FJA for Lt. Col. F.J.Atwood, who inspected Remington Rand & Ithaca frames. ( P)proof mark stamped below mag release button. Remington Rand Inc. Syracuse N.Y. U.S.A. On Slide, 4 stamped on top trigger guard. Top of slide (P) proof mark behind chamber.
Right side markings: Crossed Cannon Ordance Dept stamp (partial strike) top rear of frame, United States Property above serial number NO. 224758, M1911A1 U.S. ARMY , (R) stamped on trigger guard top frt. inverted (7) on bottom rear trigger guard.
By the end of WWII many of the nearly 900,000 Remington Rand 1911A1 had been lost in combat or gone to the bottom of the Atlantic; still others were brought home as souvenirs. The ones the military brought home were put in war emergency storage, only to be brought out again during the Korean War and again for the war in Vietnam. The NRA received a number of the 1911A1 surplus pistols and made them available to members in 1962 as included paperwork testifies for $17.00. Most examples were war worn and mismatched, this pistol being the rare exception.
