Custom Colt .38 Super Target Pistol Conversion to .38 Mid-Range Wadcutter
Description:
Serial #17599, .38 Spl. Mid-Range Wadcutter, 5 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This was originally a 1954-made Colt Government Model Target pistol chambered in .38 Super and features a Micro adjustable rear sight mated to a squared front target blade. The slide and frame have about 65-70% of the original blue remaining, with silvering along the high edges and projections, as well as some mottled gray areas of pinprick pitting at the rear of the slide on the right side, and on the frame at the serial number. Some additional freckling is present on the sides of the hammer spur, and there are some further hairline scratches scattered about the blue on the frame. The checkered tropical hardwood grips are excellent quality replacements and exhibit almost no wear with only some trace flattening of the points on either panel. The pistol was modified for Bullseye competition by rechambering the original .38 Super barrel to .38 Mid-Range Wadcutter, widening and polishing the feed ramp for reliability, installation of a correct .38 Special extractor, and hand stippling the frontstrap. A single OEM Colt .38 Mid-range Wadcutter magazine is included. This is a very well done .38 Mid-Range conversion, mechanically excellent and reminiscent of the Bullseye conversions made by Jim Clark in the '50s and '60s, and is in very good-near fine condition.
