Smith & Wesson Pre-39 model...first year production 1954


Description:
S&W pre-39 9mm made in the first year of production...1954.  There were only 1600 pre-39's made from 1954 to 1957 with serial numbers starting at 1001 and ending with 2600.  A couple of noticeable differences between the Pre-39 and production 39's:  The slide serrtions on the Pre-39 have the decocker almost in middle and on the 39's the serrations are mostly towards the muzzle from the decocker.  Also the magazine stampings and follower are unique;  a flat steel follower on the Pre-39's along with the bottom stampings shown in the photo below.

This pistol, being 71 years old retains about 95% original finishes with a fair amount of muzzle wear on the steel slide and some black off of the right side of the grip frame.

Mechanically excellent.
