Description: SCARCE Allen & Thurber SIDEHAMMER .35 Caliber Light/Handy Percussion Rifle Extrem1y RARE 1 of 300 Percussion Muzzle Loading Sidehammers Made! Here we present an antique Allen & Thurber Side-Hammer Sporting Rifle, made circa 1845, indicated by the low serial number, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Only a few hundred of these muzzle loaders were manufactured in total in the 1840s to the late 1850s during the various Ethan Allen partnerships. There is scrollwork engraving on the sides of the action. It has a large, thick butt plate, perhaps a feature to help balance with all the steel at the front of the rifle. The overall condition is good. Refinished. The action functions. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. The lightly engraved frame and hammer are nice features. “ALLEN & THURBER WORCESTER” is marked on the top of the barrel.
