Scarce Worcester, Mass. Manufactured Allen & Thurber .36cal Dragoon Pepperbox w/ 6" Barrels ** 1837 Patent Date **
Description: Here we have a rather scarce Dragoon-sized Allen &Thurber Pepperbox. This particular .36 cal Pepperbox features a 6" barrel cluster, smooth walnut grips, floral engraving, engraved nipple shield, and trigger guard spur. This Dragoon Pepperbox was made in the new Worchester, Ma. Allen & Thurber factory after the firm completed it's move from thier Norwich, Ct. factory in 1847. This was the third move for the company after starting in 1831 Grafton, Ma. and moving to Norwich in 1842. The exterior has developed a nice brown/grey patina and shows no major damage or pitting. The original walnut grips are numbers matching ( 64 ) and are free from cracks or repairs. Both grips still fit very well to the frame and show various small handling marks/dings. All the factory markings are still visible but are rather faint. The barrel cluster is marked "ALLEN & THURBER WORCESTER / PATENTED 1837 CAST STEEL" and the hammer is marked "ALLENS PATENT". This Pepperbox functions flawlessly and all the nipples are intact and not mushroomed over. This Allen &Thurber Dragoon Pepperbox would make an excellent addition to any antique firearm collection.
