Description: EARLY BRITISH PERCUSSION SELF COCKING BAR HAMMER .36 CAL. BELT MODEL PEPPERBOX CIRCA 1840. 8” o/a with 3” six shot barrels. First successful British self-cocking pepperbox. Large size belt model with engraved frame and hammer. Walnut grips. No maker name. Birmingham proofs in the barrel flutes. Good to very good metal with dark patina. All original. Working order except trigger return spring which is weak and does not fully reset. Grips with wear and a small hairline at the frame on right side. Model very popular with British Officer’s serving in India both before and during the Great Mutiny period. Reasonably priced. SOLD Antique: Yes |
