CLASSY 1700s FRENCH Antique .50 Caliber FLINTLOCK Pistol ACCESSORIZED Case
Engraved Breech Loading Pistol with CHECKERED STOCK
Description: CLASSY 1700s FRENCH Antique .50 Caliber FLINTLOCK Pistol ACCESSORIZED Case Engraved Breech Loading Pistol with CHECKERED STOCK Here we present a French Antique Flintlock Pistol in .50 Caliber, made circa the 18th Century. This little pistol was the 1700s European predecessor of the US’s own single shot pistol named for its inventor: Henry Deringer. It features a single .50 caliber smooth bore. This one has a turn-off barrel for loading without a rammer. The grip is solid walnut and finely checkered. This would have been handy in a pocket or purse for some personal protection or reassurance. In many ways, this pistol is very similar to those built by Israel Segalas II (1714-1774) around the 1760s. His father, Israel Segalas I was a French Huguenot (a persecuted Christian at the hands of the Catholics) who migrated to England in the late 17th century and was active as a gunmaker in London in the early 18th century. This pistol is quite beautiful and lightly engraved. The barrel and frame are both marked “1” and it does unthread for loading. Loading the breech directly, as opposed to loading via the muzzle, allows the shooter to use a larger ball for better gas seal and is therefore more efficient. This is an original surviving flintlock and not converted as many were when the percussion firing system became available. The overall condition is fine. Original finish has been preserved and remains bright. The grip has retained sharp checkering and is seated against the frame firmly. The action is strong. The bore is in good shape. This example is lightly engraved. The included accessories are in good, or better, shape. Here is a display ready set to add to the collection! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 1-3/4 inches. Caliber: .50 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2025 #201076 SOLD Antique: Yes |
