Early 1800s Full Size FLINTLOCK Pistol!

Here we present an antique Continental European Flintlock Pistol, made circa the early 1800s. This pistol would have been in service concurrent to the War of 1812 as well as the Napoleonic Wars. Like the cavalry pistols from other nations such as Britain and France, this was a large, single shot pistol with a brass pommel that could be used as a club when the man-stopping single shot was expended.

This one features a part-round barrel in .56 caliber. The lock, hammer, and brass hardware feature scroll engraving. The trigger guard features a seated dog while the front of the frizzen pictures a stern-looking woman. The side-plate is cast and engraved, giving it a somewhat delicate, lacey appearance. The top of the barrel has some light embellishments as well. The stock and the ramrod are both tipped in horn.

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong and tight. The bore is in good shape for its age. This example is mostly scroll engraved with a dog on the trigger guard and an easily angered woman on the frizzen. Here is a uniquely decorated fighting pistol that would have reminded the user of his loyal hound and his Old Lady while he was at the front!
