ENGRAVED/INLAID Antique LIEGE Proofed BELGIAN .69 Flintlock DRAGOON Pistol
MILITARY Pistol Made Circa the 1820/30s in Liege
Description: ENGRAVED/INLAID Antique LIEGE Proofed BELGIAN .69 Flintlock DRAGOON Pistol MILITARY Pistol Made Circa the 1820/30s in Liege Here we present an antique Dutch/Belgian Flintlock Dragoon Military Style Pistol, made circa between 1815 and 1830 in Liege. Today we know that Liege is a city in Belgium, perhaps most famous for its centuries of arms manufacture; but at this time, Belgium was not yet independent, and was a parcel of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands until recognized in 1839. Belgium as we know it today was only established in 1830, when the population rebelled against Dutch rule. Prior to that, most of the country had been known as Flanders and other local areas, which were possessions of Spain, France and Holland over the prior several hundreds of years. After the final defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte, the territory was considered to be part of Holland, or the Netherlands as we call it today. This lasted only 15 years until 1830. Belgium was an Industrial powerhouse with its greatest capacity coming from Liege, where gun making was a key industry supplying military weapons and distributing them all over Europe and to the United States when the Civil War rolled around. Pistols of this type were in wide use in Belgium itself, as well as other countries and the civilian market. This is a brass mounted walnut stocked completely standard Military Flintlock Pistol of the day. This pistol features a massive .69 caliber man-stopping bore, typical of a military small arm of the period. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age remaining smooth and has browned. Solid grip with unique wire inlay designs. A crack wraps the forend with some movement when pressure is applied. A neat feature is the panoply of arms side plate. A chip is missing from the forend tip. Gold plated barrel stamps. The wood also has a “punch dot” style texture that gives a scale like effect. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7 inches. Caliber: .69 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
