Thomas Gowdy Belt Pistol - Nashville TN - Circa 1845-1850
Description: This Deringer style pistol is one of only 3 known. It has a tiger maple stock, which is sound and was never checkered. The engraved lock plate is engraved "T. GOWDY", the top barrel flat is engraved "NASHVILLE". The original ram rod is birdseye maple and capped in German Silver. It has a cap box in the butt and the original belt hook is of iron. The tang, breech, trigger guard and cap box doors are all engraved. It has one wide silver band and one very small silver band over the breech where the barrel screws into the breech plug. This is a .52 caliber smooth bore. The barrel is 4" long and the gun overall is 8 1/2" and is Circa 1845-1850. ?Made and marked Deringer style belt pistols are seldom seen for sale. Thomas Gowdy can be accessed on the internet, which shows a picture of Gowdy and bio illustrating pieces of his sterling cups and flatware, the things he was well known for other than guns.
