British Brass Barreled Tap-Action Pistol With Bayonet By Goodwin & Co.
Description: NSN, approximately .41 Caliber, 4 1/8" barrels with very good, lightly pitted bores. This is a handsome pistol made ca. 1807 & 1818, that has a tap-action pan that allows for sequential firing of the top and bottom barrels. The brass frame and barrels have a pleasant, mottled yellow-ochre patina throughout. The barrels have scattered small handling blemishes, while the box frame has engraved martial panoplies on both sides with "GOODWIN & CO." and "LONDON" on the left and right sides respectively. Additionally, a 20th century British registration number is stamped into the brass on the right side. The tap, frizzen, cock, and sliding safety latch are mottled gray and plum-brown throughout, while the action is firm and fully functional. The smooth, bag-shaped walnut grip is in very good condition, although there are some linear scratches on the left side. The spring-loaded bayonet still snaps into place firmly and securely. George Goodwin was a Birmingham maker who was active in the early part of the 19th century. Many of his guns were marked "LONDON" but he did not have a trade address there. This is a fine example of a rare, tap-action bayonet pistil. Antique; SOLD Antique: Yes |
