British Flintlock Pistol by James Willmore of London 1740-50s

Description:
NSN, .65 Caliber, 12 barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is a large pistol, over 18" in length overall, with deeply struck proofs on the barrel breech and a "WILLMOR(E)" marked lock. The barrel and lockplate have a dull gray patina mottled with spots of dark brown throughout, while the cock, frizzen, and pan are mostly brown, with light-moderate pitting as well. The pin-fastened walnut stock has some simple decorative carving around the breech, and has an overall dull ochre patina on the pierced brass sideplate, ramrod thimble and tailpipe, trigger guard, and bulbous butt cap. There is a diagonal crack through the forend at the tailpipe, which has an old glued repair, as well as scattered insect holes throughout the wood. The action is fully functional and locks firmly at both half and full-cock, and the ramrod is a close-fitting, modern replacement. James Willmore was a London gunmaker who operated in Leicester Fields ca. 1740, and was listed as "Gunmaker in Ordinary to King George II." This is a very well made pistol, and is in fair-about good condition overall. Antique;
