Early 1800s Antique British NEW LAND Pattern CAVALRY Style .65 FLINTLOCK
Original Lock “TOWER” and “CROWN/GR” Marked Pistol
Description: Early 1800s Antique British NEW LAND Pattern CAVALRY Style .65 FLINTLOCK Original Lock “TOWER” and “CROWN/GR” Marked Pistol Here we present an antique British New Land Pattern British Cavalry Style Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1813 in London, England. Introduced in 1796 and in widespread production by 1802, the New Land Cavalry Pistol provided one model of pistol for all of Britain's cavalry units such as the Royal Horse Artillery. Initially it started out with a rounded brass butt, as is the example, but this soon gave way to a flat butt with a lanyard ring. The ring on the later pistols allowed the pistol to be attached to the cavalryman's equipment and not be lost in the heat of battle. The famous East India Company made many of these for British Cavalry serving in India, who in turn brought them into service elsewhere in the world. This example could possibly have seen service during the War of 1812. Since the conclusion of the War of 1812, historians have long debated the relative weight of the multiple reasons underlying its origins. During the 19th century, historians generally concluded that war was declared largely over national honor, neutral maritime rights and the British seizure of neutral ships and their cargoes on the high seas. Ultimately, the War of 1812 ended in a draw on the battlefield, and the peace treaty reflected this. The Treaty of Ghent was signed in modern-day Belgium on December 24, 1814, and went into effect on February 17, 1815, after both sides had ratified it. This agreement provided for returning to the status quo ante bellum, which meant that the antagonists agreed to return to the state that had existed before the war and restore all conquered territory. Overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is in good shape for its age. Markings are legible. The stock is solid with quite a few aesthetic dings and scuffs. Proof marked barrel.
