ENGRAVED Antique T. KETLAND & Co. “Boxlock” FLINTLOCK Self Defense Pistol
EARLY 1800s POCKET/MUFF Flintlock Pistol
Description: ENGRAVED Antique T. KETLAND & Co. “Boxlock” FLINTLOCK Self Defense Pistol EARLY 1800s POCKET/MUFF Flintlock Pistol Here we present an antique T. Ketland & Co. Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1813 to 1821 in turn of the century England. Thomas Ketland & Co. was a firearms manufacturer founded in Birmingham, England somewhere around 1760. Thomas Ketland Sr. was a highly successful Birmingham gunmaker. He started his business around 1760 and expanded into the export market around 1790. He died in 1816. The business carried on until bankruptcy in 1821. The company manufactured flintlock pistols, becoming quite successful in its field. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. The lock plate is marked “T./KETLAND/&Co” on the left and “LONDON” on the right. This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in the pocket of anyone in the busy cities of London, Paris and Liege during the very early 1800s. This pistol is small, light and simple. The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the "Saturday Night Specials" of the 18th-19th century. Before the Deringer, they were "Gentleman's" or "Muff Pistols", typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff. The overall condition is good. Strong action. The bore is clear and in good shape for its age. Solid grip. Markings are sharp. English proofs are present on the bottom of the frame. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3 inches. Caliber: .44 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1200 #247431 SOLD Antique: Yes |
