FLINTLOCK Antique BRITISH Pocket or MUFF Pistol
Description: FLINTLOCK Antique BRITISH Pocket or MUFF Pistol Late 18th, Early 19th Century HIDEOUT Carry Gun Here we present a small antique Flintlock Pistol, made circa the late 1700s in Britain. This very small type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the 19th Centuries, in the British Isles, as well as the colonies. They were of course made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside. This specimen is an example of a very prolific design that was made and sold by many gunsmiths in England during this period. There are no obvious maker’s marks, though there are the British “Crown/P” and “Crown/V” proof marks. There is a small oval on the left side of the pistol that usually bears the name of the retailer or maker, which is blank. The rest of the frame is engraved. An interesting feature of this firearm is the threaded, twist-off barrel. This is an advantageous design in that the weapon could be loaded with a large caliber ball without using a ramrod. This helped to create a better gas seal behind the projectile, making the most of efficiency with this tiny firearm at close range. This is certainly an example of an “Everyman’s Gun” for the time. The overall condition is very good. The overall patina is mild gray. The engraving and proofs are clear. The smooth bore is fine. The stock is very good, solid with a few handling marks. The action is fine. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 2-3/8 inches in length. Caliber: .44 The bore and the firing mechanism are fine. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $800 #21733 SOLD Antique: Yes |
