Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS Pistol with INTEGRAL BAYONET
Description: Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS Pistol with INTEGRAL BAYONET GILLET OF BRISTOL Brass Barreled Boarding Gun! Here we present an antique Brass Barreled Flintlock Blunderbuss Pistol with a spring-loaded bayonet, made circa the early-1800s by Gillet of Bristol. Bristol itself is a city in the southwest part of England with a long-important harbor and maritime history. The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel flared at the muzzle and frequently throughout the entire bore, and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range. A blunderbuss in handgun form was called a Dragon, and it is from this that the term “Dragoon” evolved. The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending vessels. The top of the barrel is marked “GILLET BRISTOL” and the lock is also marked “GILLET”. This one is equipped with a spike bayonet that is mounted on a hinge and kept under spring tension. When the tip is released the entire thing swings to the fore with authority and locks in place. A fantastic piece that will conjure thoughts of pirates and naval warfare. The condition is very good. The bore is smooth. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Brass Barrel is 14-1/2 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $6950 #190021 SOLD Antique: Yes |
