ORNATE MARTIAL FLINTLOCK Pistol with EAGLE & RABBIT Figures .58 Caliber   

18th Century with Gold Plated Castings

Here we present an antique Gold Plated, Engraved, Carved, and Ornately Cast Flintlock Officer’s Pistol, made circa the early-19th Century in Continental Europe.
This is a belt-sized martial pistol. Its barrel is 9-1/8 inches in length and in .58 caliber. The pommel, trigger guard, side plate, and thumb plate are ornately cast brass. The thumb plate depicts an eagle clutching a rabbit, the side plate men and animals coming out of town to their camp, the trigger guard a soldier in ancient style armor with a spear, and the pommel a panoply of arms and armor with many other figures with scrolls throughout. The breech and tang of the barrel is engraved with a classical bust. The barrel forward of the breech is relief engraved with a goddess holding a bow in one hand and a serpent in the other. The lock is maker marked “A. POR ENTR__”. The stock is carved to meet the metal hardware. The ramrod is tipped in horn.

The overall condition is very good. Gold plating on the cast brass hardware. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock has some small repairs in the fore end and remains solid throughout.
