Description: SILVER INLAD & ORNATE Antique MEDITERANEAN Style Flintlock HORSE Pistol ENGRAVED Late-18th / Early 19th Century Pistol Here we present an antique Mediterranean Style Flintlock Horse Pistol, made circa the end of the 18th century. Pistols like these were commonly used around the Mediterranean in the 18th and early 19th Centuries. This pistol was likely made in Europe, possibly Italy. The aesthetic, both in form and décor, are European, though there are designs that are slightly indicative of Ottoman ownership. This would have been like those weapons carried by Tripolitan pirates when the young United States sent the Marines to take care of them. This is a large pistol used for fighting but it was also a status symbol with its inlays in the stock. The overall condition is very good. Strong action. This example is re-converted. The bore is in very good shape for its age, smooth and clear. Solid stock and grip. A repaired chip is present just ahead of the lock. Wonderful wire inlays and silver motifs. Lightly engraved barrel and lock. A small piece at the rear of the trigger guard tang is absent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 10 inches.
