SPRING-BAYONET Flintlock COACH Pistol by GOODWIN & Co. ENGRAVED Antique .70 BRASS BARREL British PERCUSSION Pistol
Description: SPRING-BAYONET Flintlock COACH Pistol by GOODWIN & Co. ENGRAVED Antique .70 BRASS BARREL British PERCUSSION Pistol Here we present an antique Engraved G. Goodwin & Company Flintlock Brass Barrel Coach Pistol with a Spring-Loaded Bayonet, made circa the early 1800s in London, England, shortly after the percussion firing system was introduced. George Goodwin was a late 18th to early 19th century gunsmith with known addresses in Birmingham being 2 Ann Street, 3 Haymarket, and 3 Ann Street. This example is a large English sidehammer percussion pistol with a “manstopping” .70 caliber bore. Pistols such as this are known to have been carried on Mail Coaches and by Police/Customs Revenue Service throughout most of the 19th century. It was of course, made primarily for self-defense, and very well would tell stories if it could. Much happened in Britain, in its colonies and abroad during this period. Its bore would have been very intimidating if by chance you were on the receiving end. And, after you had expended your one shot, you now had a 6-1/4” blade to defend yourself with. The overall condition is near fine. Some original gilt finish remains in the recesses of the metal parts. The brass barrel has patinated nicely. The action is excellent and the spring-loaded bayonet comes out with authority. The bore is smooth and in good condition. The stock shows use and has original varnish throughout. This is a fantastic piece that would be imposing even today! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8 inches. Caliber: .70 Flintlock Bayonet: 6-1/4 inches. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $4100 #227603 SOLD Antique: Yes |
