Very Interesting British Turn-Off Flintlock Pistol by Goldsworthy of Taunton

NSN, .48 Caliber, 1 5/8" barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This is a handsome pistol that was built with a waterproof pan having unusually wide channels fore and aft, leaving a pedestal-shaped pan in the center. The iron barrel has an overall dark gray patina with spots of mild freckling in spots. An intricate decorative band is engraved at the muzzle, while the brass frame has further patriotic flag and shield vignettes on either side. The maker’s name is engraved on the left side: "GOLSWORTHY (sic)", and "TAUNTON" on the right. The frizzen and cock have a mottled gray-brown patina throughout, as does the functional sliding safety (the cock does not lock at either half, or full-cock presently). The walnut bag-shaped grip has fine decorative wire inlays, with fine checkering along the top and underside. Some minor handling marks are present, and there is light-moderate flattening of the points as well. Thomas Goldsworthy / Golsworthy was a gunmaker who operated in Taunton, Somerset, from 1821 & 1830. This is a very nice example of his work, and is in good condition overall. Antique;
