This Model 1842 Gendarmerie percussion pistol was manufactured in 1848 by the National Armory at Tulle. It is approx. 9.5"" in overall length. The approx. 5"" round 60 caliber barrel has a very good smooth bore with areas of erosion. It has three proof marks within circles on the left flat reading from the breech C A (in intertwined circles) and C. It is stamped 1848 in front of the bolster and MN along with two proofs on the right flat. All metal is bright with light staining. The barrel tang is stamped Mle 1842. The lock is marked Mre Nle de Tulle (Manufacture by the National Armory of Tulle). There are small inspection marks on several other metal parts. The stock is fine with no chips or cracks, light usage dents and dings, and a very nice stamped rondel on the left flat. The action function correctly. This very nice example of the Model 1842 is a must for any French percussion pistol collection.
