Mid-19th Century Self-Defense Pistol

Here we present an antique Double Barrel, Over-Under Boxlock Percussion Belt Pistol, made circa the 1850s likely in Europe. This would have been primarily used as a self-defense gun. The over/under configuration is highlighted by two separate percussion chambers, one for each barrel, as compared to a rotating barrel.

The integrated ramrod fits neatly between the two barrels. The walnut stock is also very nice. In its day, this little two shot over/under percussion pistol would have been a very handy self-defense weapon to have around, having two shots to fire off instead of one! This pistol was likely worn on one’s belt or carried in a coat pocket as they strolled through the busy streets of London or Paris during the tumultuous times of the mid-1800s.

This example has been around the block. The bores are in good shape for their ages. No action (missing hammers and the left trigger). The grip is firm and contains only light handling. Legible markings. Both barrels are marked “8” on the left side.
