Antique Van Wartson & Co 40 Cal Percussion Single 3.5" BRL Fair Bore

Description:
Van Wartson & Co. Model Percussion Pistol. Serial # NSN. Approx. .40 caliber percussion fired boot pistol with a 3-1/2” octagon barrel and a folding trigger. The bore is fair. The barrel is marked “London” with Birmingham proof. The left side of the receiver is engraved and marked Van Wartson & Co.”. Made c. 1840’s. The metal finish on the barrel is a brown patina with areas of wear along with dings and scratches. The nickel finish on the engraved receiver shows dulling and soiling. The engraved hammer is a gray patina. The folded trigger drops when the hammer is cocked, there is a sliding safety that engages at half-cock that prevents the hammer from going to full cock. The finely checkered walnut grip is in good condition showing some light marks with finish wear. The engraved pommel cap has a hinged door for storing small items such as percussion caps in the grip. The action works fine.
