Colt 1851 Navy, Hartford Address, All Matching, 40+% Original Blue, 80% Silver Plate, Made Early 1861
Description: Offered is a Colt 1851 Navy with a Hartford barrel address. It retains approximately 40% of it's original blue with all matching serial numbers and perfect fitting grip. The backstrap has 100% original silver. It was made early in 1861 and has the number "96" stamped twice on the butt. It also has 3 notches in the front left front edge of the 90% original varnish grip. The grip is numbered to the gun. It is believed that this serial number range went to Georgia and the Carolinas. 75%+ of the cylinder scene is visible. Sam Colt manufactured many 1851 Navies with the Hartford address as opposed to the New York barrel stamp. It is believed that he did this to appeal to potential Southern Buyers in the months leading up to the Civil War. He knew the New York address had no appeal to purchasers in the South who were preparing for War. The noted Colt expert Damon Mills once wrote that he considered the Hartford Colt Navies secondary Confederate weapons. This one is mechanically tight and the half cocked capping position is distinct. $45 insured USPS Priority Mail shipping.
