PERCUSSION BELT PISTOL by BLANCH of LONDON
Description: A handsome British percussion belt pistol (belt hook on left side) made most likely by John A. Blanch, a gunmaker in London from 1809 to 1848. The top of the octogon barrel is marked "Blanch London". Approximately .67 caliber. The bore is rifled and is in good condition. The barrel is 6 & 1/4" long and the overall length is 10 & 1/2". There is a captive ramrod ( which lacks an end piece to retain it). The barrel, lock, hammer, trigger guard, belt hook, etc. have a uniform look which appears to be the remains of the original light blue finish.. The end of the barrel, the lock, trigger guard barrel tang and hammer are all engraved. The walnut grips are finely checkered with some solid accent areas and a blank oval shaped escutcheon. The butt is decorated with a well made lions head in relief.. The action is very strong and the hammer holds on half cock ( which serves as a safety) and full cock. The overall condition of this weapon rates Very Good to Fine by NRA Standards. There are 2 proof marks on the left side of the barrel near the hammer.
