ENGRAVED Antique BRITISH Boxlock .54 “MANSTOPPER” Percussion BELT Pistol
Mid-1800s SIDEHAMMER Belt/Coat Pocket Pistol
Description: ENGRAVED Antique BRITISH Boxlock .54 “MANSTOPPER” Percussion BELT Pistol Mid-1800s SIDEHAMMER Belt/Coat Pocket Pistol Here we present a nicely engraved antique British Sidehammer Boxlock Percussion Belt Pistol, made circa the 1850s in Birmingham, England. This little self-defense pistol would have been most at home in a gentleman’s coat pocket or hooked onto the belt of anyone in the busy cities of Europe during the mid-1800s. This pistol is light and simple. The “Pocket Pistol” name says it all. They were the "Saturday Night Specials" of the 16th-18th century. Before the Deringer, they were "Gentleman's" or "Muff Pistols", typically, a smaller pistol that was easily concealed. They were favored among the gentry and women because of these traits. Men would carry them concealed in a waistcoat pocket and women would hide them in a hand muff. It is elegantly engraved on the sides of the frame. With its .54 caliber “manstopping” bore, this pistol would have been quite the deterrent against ne’er do wells and ruffians roaming the city streets in tumultuous Europe in the early to mid-1800s. The overall condition is good. The grip has maintained sharp checkering and sits solidly against the frame. Sharp engravings. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and remains in good shape for its age. A few British proofs are present on the left lower barrel flat. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .54 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1200 #233192 SOLD Antique: Yes |
