MUFF PISTOLS WITH ACCESSORIES BY CHARLES MOORE
Description: FINE CASED PAIR OF SCREW BARREL, FOLDING TRIGGER, PERCUSSION MUFF PISTOLS WITH ACCESSORIES BY CHARLES MOORE, IN SUPERB ORIGINAL CONDITION. SN 4,5. Cal 38. 1 1/2" Case hardened bbls and rounded boxlock percussion actions fitted with folding blued triggers and back sliding safeties, are engraved “C. MOORE 77 St. James’s STt London” (Charles Moore working at that address 1825-1842) on left sides, and with well cut large open scroll on right sides. Bottoms of breech sections are stamped with London black powder proofs, and serial/ assembly numbers “4” and “5” which are also on bbls. Bag grips with silver caps have very closely spaced checkering, and silver ovals at tops of grips. Pistols are housed in their orig rosewood veneered case, lined in blue velvet, and containing an array of fine accessories, including an unmarked German silver small sized combination powder/ cap/ and ball flask, polished steel nutcracker type ball mold, combination polished steel bbl and nipple wrench, brass and steel loading rod, ebony handled nipple wrench, and a bone handled dusting brush. PROVENANCE: Outstanding estate collection of Confederate and historical arms of Morris Racker. CONDITION: Excellent, very near to new, appears unfired, with only some slight oxidation in need of cleaning on inside of grip of gun “5”. Case is excellent with some chips and cracks in veneer. Interior cloth is fine with some rubs and losses. Accessories are excellent, with some stains and pitting on bullet mold. SOLD Antique: Yes |
