32562- INDO-ARAB SILVER MOUNTED MATCHLOCK MUSKET JEZAIL STYLE CIRCA LATE 1700’S.
Description: 32562- INDO-ARAB SILVER MOUNTED MATCHLOCK MUSKET JEZAIL STYLE CIRCA LATE 1700’S. 54” o/a with 42” smoothbore .70 caliber sighted barrel with maker round cartouche at center breech. Profuse silver inlay overall. Stock with mother-of-pearl inlay on forend and large wood butt cap. Of type made in Mysore, southern India during the rule of the Arab Tipu Sultan (THE TIGER OF MYSORE) in the late 1700’s. Almost identically decorated musket pictured on page 181 of Robert Elgood’s book “FIREARMS OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD” and probably by the same maker the author identifies as “MAJID”. With normal wear and patina for one of these but still in working order. Exceptional example and may be part of a group of muskets for use by a special household guard unit or company. $1700.
