Description: Antique DUTCH/BELGIAN Sea Service Style Flintlock DRAGOON MILITARY Pistol .69 Caliber Naval Pistol Made Circa 1830s in Liege Here we present an antique Dutch/Belgian Sea Service Flintlock Pistol, made circa the 1830s in Liege. Today we know that Liege is a city in Belgium, perhaps most famous for its centuries of arms manufacture; but at this time, Belgium was not yet independent and was a parcel of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands until recognized in 1839. Revolution and the push for independence began in earnest in 1830. This pistol features a large .69 caliber bore, typical of a military small arm of the period. The pommel is a flat one with a lanyard ring. The top of the barrel is marked “Belgium”. No provision for a ramrod was made as the user carried one secured to his belt. This would have been one of the last large, smooth bore flintlock pistols to be made for official service before pistols in the percussion firing system and then shortly after cartridge firearms were introduced and adopted. The overall condition is good. The action only partially functions as the hammer does not lock at full-cock. The bore is smooth and has been cleaned. Solid wood with the exception of a repaired crack to the rear of the lock and a split on the left flat. Markings are legible. Mottled gray/brown patina. Own the original!
