Description: Antique NAPOLEONIC French Model An IX Style Flintlock GENDARMERIE Pistol Napoleonic Wars Era GENDARMERIE Style Pistol Here we present an antique French Pistolet modèle An IX Style Pistol, or Pistol Model An 9, made in France circa 1812. This model was likely manufactured at one of the three French Arsenals, Charleville, Maubeuge, and St-Etienne. A Gendarmerie is a military force with law enforcement duties among the civilian population. The Police Nationale is responsible for Paris and other urban areas whereas the Gendarmerie is responsible for small towns and rural areas with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants. This pistol is of robust construction with lots of iron for support. The bores are a massive .65 caliber. Though undated, it is possible, if not likely, that it was used during the latter Napoleonic Wars. The overall condition is good. Strong action. Good, smooth bore. The stock has a chip and a crack seen from the bottom, near the front of the trigger guard. Other than that the stock is whole and solid. “H” can be seen hand carved atop the wrist. This pistol was made as a military police pistol and continues has survived in its original flintlock state! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.
