Antique Ornate MEDITERRANEAN Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS Naval Pirate Dragon Used by Navies & Pirates for Boarding and Repelling!
Description: Antique Ornate MEDITERRANEAN Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS Naval Pirate Dragon Used by Navies & Pirates for Boarding and Repelling! Here we present an antique Ornate Ottoman Style Flintlock Blunderbuss, made circa the 1700s. Wikipedia states: “The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large caliber barrel flared at the muzzle and frequently throughout the entire bore and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern-day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was effective only at short range, lacking accuracy at long range.” The flintlock blunderbuss was the original coach gun, being a short, handy, and devastating weapon at close range. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending by pirates and navies alike! A “dragon” is simply a shorter version of its big brother, the blunderbuss. In many cases, the face of a dragon was engraved into the barrel near the muzzle. Thus, when fired, it appeared as if a fire-breathing dragon had entered the room! The catchy and intimidating name of dragon stuck and is now a part of history. They were mostly used by calvary troops or in close quarter combat/self-defense situations. This term was the true origination of what we now know and love today as, the “dragoon.” The overall condition is good. The action is strong. The bore is good. The wrist is hand punched with a simple pattern. The lock and hammer are lightly engraved. The trigger guard is missing a screw. This piece will display well in any collection! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 10-3/4 inches. Muzzle Diameter: 1-3/8 inches Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
